Umbria Jazz is one of the most relevant jazz venues of the world. It takes place in Perugia in summertime (July) and in Orvieto in wintertime (December); musicians and fans from all over the world never miss this happening. Orvieto is a lovely medieval town, perched on the flat summit of a wide butte of tuff. Among the most interesting sites of Orvieto there is St. Patrick’s well with its fascinating architecture and history; the Duomo is a huge magnificent cathedral of the XIVth. century which overlooks the surrounding valleys; Mancinelli theater proposes many interesting artistical shows for every taste; walking down the ‘Corso’ you can have a fantastic hot chocolate with cream and finally have a typical dinner in the ‘Trattoria etrusca‘, one of the most pleasant restaurants in Orvieto. Our property ‘Podere antico‘ is at 15 kilometers from this striking and undiscovered pearl.

Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi is a very important arts festival (music, theater, and dance) which takes place in Spoleto every year, in June and July. This location was chosen due to the fact that there are many spaces which can host this happening (many indoor theaters, and a suggestive Roman theater). Don’t miss this important cultural event! Spoleto deserves a special place in our itinerary also because of its beauty: an enchanting little town, at the head of a huge glen. The Piazza del Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta and its bell tower represent one of the most interesting sights of the town, from an architectural point of view. This church is also very famous because it houses a letter written by Saint Francis of Assisi. At night, the square has a special lighting, which is really striking.

Assisi is a lovely little town in province of Perugia, which is very interesting from an architectural point of view. The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is a World Heritage Site, and is visited every year from thousands of people; inside this church there are some famous frescos from Giotto, Cimabue, and Pietro Cavallini of Rome. The Basilica of Saint Clare represents another stop in our itinerary, thanks to its suggestive paintings. Moreover, Assisi has to be appreciated also for its typical roofs, of different heights, and of different shades of red. There are many places where you can have a scenic view of the town. It’s always very nice to hang around in a place like this one.

Gubbio is a charming little town situated in the northeastern part of Umbria, in the province of Perugia. The historical center of Gubbio is a of medieval aspect, with its narrow streets and its Gothic architecture. Gubbio is famous for its Palio, “la corsa dei Ceri“, a striking run held every 15th of May; in this race three teams, devoted to Saint Ubaldo, Saint George and Saint Antony, confront theirselves carrying a statue of their saint, in an itinerary which goes from the main square in front of the Palazzo dei Consoli to the Basilica of Saint Ubaldo. This run has strong historical overtones and represents a famous folklore manifestation in Italy, with throngs of cheering couloured supporters.
